In the heat of the summer, the number of new proceedings before the UPC seems to have cooled only slightly. A total number of 476 cases is now pending and no crystal ball is needed that we will soon be celebrating the 500th UPC case.

The UPC keeps its promises: with the first decisions on the merits coming hot off the press in July, the Court shows that it really is capable of handling first-instance proceedings within about one year.

It’s finally summer now, but that doesn’t mean the UPC is going on vacation. The contrary is true. In June, we saw an increase in infringement actions of over 15%.

German remains the predominant language of proceedings with 47 percent. However, English is catching up – for the time being  43 percent – and this trend will likely continue over the next months.
